South Florida Neighborhoods
Coral Gables
The
City of Coral Gables, known as "The City Beautiful",
has approximately 40,000 residents who enjoy a variety
of first-class services. The City's 13.30 square miles
are shaded by more then 50,000 trees. Coral Gables is
home to three excellent golf courses, numerous parks
and public tennis courts, 36 miles of waterways and
abundant boating facilities, and probably the only swimming
pool in the country on the National Historic Register
- The Venetian Pool - a spring fed grotto of native
coral rock and underwater caves.
The famed Miracle Mile and its surrounding
downtown streets with their European-style outdoor cafes,
provides residents, employees, business people and visitors
with an enjoyable tropical shopping experience. The
downtown area is home to many specialty stores and more
than 120 international restaurants, a paradise for casual
and gourmet diners.
The City's timeless grace and grandeur
is maintained thanks to careful planning, strictly enforced
building codes and ordinances, and a strong Historic
Preservation Program. This program provides protection
to the irreplaceable historic resources such as the
City's fountain plazas and monumental gateways. Coral
Gables currently has more than 600 locally historic
designated properties.
